Steps and Stepovers

Steps are defined in AS1657 as having an incline of between 60 to 70 degrees. This angle will give steps a much smaller ‘footprint’ than stairs, so you can get your height access if you are restricted for area, as in many industrial situations. Steps can have treads spaced between 200mm to 300mm and must have a cage (or screen) attached ‘where a person could fall more than 6m’.

Safe Access Equipment Pty Ltd can design steps for any project, including residential and architectural. We specialise in pipe stepovers for the oil & gas industry, bund wall stepovers for utilities and portable building steps for every industry.

All the step treads must be evenly spaced from the ground up, so once we know your ‘threshold height’ we can design and fabricate a set of steps to comply with AS1657. We can fabricate the steps from aluminium, stainless steel or hot dip galvanised steel. For stepovers, we need to know what underside clearance you’ll require.
